Purpose of Position

THIS POSTING WILL BE USED TO CONDUCT ONGOING RECRUITMENT AND WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED.

Why does the job exist?

This position serves to enhance the recreational experience of park visitors by providing safe and clean drinking water and effectively treating wastewater in accordance with New Mexico Environmental Department rules and regulations.

How does it get done?

This position is responsible for maintaining water and wastewater treatment facilities throughout the Northeast Region of New Mexico. The position works with technicians at parks providing guidance and expertise to ensure that New Mexico Environment Department rules and regulations are complied with as it relates to drinking water and wastewater treatment. The incumbent must hold at a minimum a Small Water Advanced and Small Wastewater Advanced Utility Operator License issued by the State of New Mexico Environment Department.  Additionally, this position serves to assist with park and facility maintenance as well as provides customer service to park visitors.

The visitors to the park are the key customers.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have an solid understanding and respect for outdoor recreation and education. The candidate should have a strong background in water and wastewater treatment methods specifically surface water treatment. The candidate must have experience in water system and wastewater system operation and the ability to obtain and maintain required licenses through the NM Environment Department.

Minimum Qualification

Associates Degree from a Technical/Vocational school and one (1) year of experience as a water operator, water/wastewater operator, to include experience with construction, backhoe operation, construction inspections, buried pipeline repair, pump and equipment repair, pipe fitting and/or reading meters.  Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Small Water Systems Advanced Certification, Small Wastewater Systems Advanced Certification, within one year of hire. Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License and must complete a Defensive Driving Course.

Working Conditions

Working conditions are primarily in an outdoor setting. Exposure to extreme weather conditions, environmental allergens and dust are a daily requirement. This position requires significant physical activity. The ability to lift heavy objects (water treatment chemicals, pumps, equipment, etc.) is required.
