Under the direction of the Utilities Operations Manager, responsible for routine operation, maintenance and repair of water/wastewater systems.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain and clean a variety of equipment, machinery and tools such as liquid sludge application equipment, clarifiers, mechanical bar screens, aeration equipment, chemical feed equipment, pumps and motors.
  • Inspects, tests, and aids operations of the water/wastewater systems to determine compliance with Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA), state and federal standards.
  • Conducts measurement of water level drops in various configurations of manhole and the calculations to convert the measurements to water losses. Ensures and monitors the flow and collection of water samples.
  • Prepares as built drawings and ensures addition of information onto the CRRUA utility base maps. Locates and maps existing water/wastewater facilities, as required.
  • Implements the water department back flow prevention/cross connection control program
  • Responsible for completing and maintaining accurate records in compliance with EPA and NMED state and federal requirements.
  • Daily checks on lift stations and reports customer complaints to the immediate supervisor.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES.  Perform related duties as assigned. Will be required to provide 24-hour emergency stand by duties, when assigned.

Qualifications

Education. High School or GED. Fifty (50) credit hours in an accredited water technology program that offers an associate’s degree in Wastewater Technology.

 

Experience. Two (2) years of full-time experience in wastewater utilities inspection, operations or maintenance.

 

Experience/Education substitution. In accordance with Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA) policy.

 

Licenses/Certifications. Valid unrestricted driver’s license. Current NM Water/Wastewater Level II certifications. May be required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within one year of hire.

 

Other.  (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver’s license record, etc.).  Must pass a background check.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Current water/wastewater systems and operating procedures; mathematical calculations associated with operation and maintenance of wastewater facilities; pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations; Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation and basic arithmetic. Analyze and evaluate information accurately and express ideas clearly when providing oral and written reports and recommendations; use initiative and judgment in working independently while recognizing matters which require the awareness of the Utilities Operations Manager; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others; responsible for knowing and abiding by all CRRUA policies and procedures.
