Status: Full-time position (eligible for benefits)

FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt Work Lead of Volunteers (No supervisory

Duties as defined by NLRB)

Job Summary:

The position of Irrigation and Water Resources Technician is to ensure the overall

functionality and maintenance of the museum’s potable and non-potable water systems

and the agricultural drip irrigation systems. The position’s aim is to secure a safe and

steady supply of water for consumption, cleaning, flushing and irrigating.

The Irrigation and Water Resources Technician will be required to interact and foster

collaborative work-relationships with other members of the staff. They agree to comply

Essential Functions:

• Perform the following key duties related to the museum’s water resources in a

timely and accurate manner.

o Conduct weekly meter readings of the water wells and documenting reporting

results quarterly to New Mexico Taxation and Revenue in the Water

Conservation report, as outlined by internal procedures

o Maintenance and repair of well pump and pressure tanks

o Maintenance and repair of gas pumps

o Maintenance and repair of drip irrigation systems

o Scheduled cleaning or replacement of the filters in the potable and nonpotable

water systems and drip irrigation systems

o Ensure timely and correct filter replacements to H-VAC units

o Troubleshooting and minor repairs on plumbing (such as winterizing

bathrooms, fixing leaking faucets, toilet tank maintenance, etc.)

o Spring set-up and winter draining of front garden fountain

• Regular status reports to the Operations Director on the water systems, along with

any current or potential problems related to those systems (i.e. equipment, facilities,

events or programs) and making recommendations to address these current or

potential problems.

• Organized upkeep of work area, tools and vehicles that are used

• Perform other operations duties as assigned

Required Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge, Competencies and/or


• Legally able to work in the United States – must provide documentation for I-9

• High School degree or GED

• Ability to read, understand and accurately implement established best practices and

standards of water systems

• Ability to perform the above listed Essential Functions of this job in an organized

and proficient manner

• Good communications – both verbal and written

• Ability to work well independently or as part of a team

• Up-to-date driver’s license and clean driving record

• Appropriate work attire and good work ethic

Preferred Requirements:

• Prior and comparable water system expertise and experience

• Bi-lingual in Spanish and English

Environmental and Physical Job Requirements:

• Must be physically able to meet the requirements of the position, which include, but

are not limited to the following:

o Able to bend, reach, crawl, stoop and climb

o Able to lift and/or maneuver items weighing up to thirty pounds

o Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time

o Able to work in hot and cold weather

• Willingness to use the safety equipment necessary when the work environment may

include exposure to dust, fumes, scents, other particles and other external/internal

volatile organic compounds

• Must be able to operate the museum’s vehicles and equipment safely and


• Must be able to work some weekends including event weekends

• Must have the means to meet the required work schedule with punctuality and
