Maintenance Technician / Water Operator Apprentice

 Job Description

Install Water Meters and new water lines on village drinking water distribution system.

Repair water leaks in drinking water distribution system in emergency situations as requested by customers or as specified on daily Work Orders. 

Repair wastewater sewer lines and install new lines.

Maintain perpetual parts inventory of water meters, plumbing fittings, parts and accessories.

Maintain constant communication with Central Office and be ready to respond to water or sewer repair emergencies.

Rotate and be on stand-by notice as scheduled to respond to water and sewer emergencies on evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Operate heavy equipment to include backhoes, skid loaders, dump trucks.

Perform first-echelon maintenance on all vehicles and equipment, such as inspection of all fluid levels, tire pressures, drive belts, etc. to ensure proper safety and operation of thereof.

Maintain daily Manifest and complete necessary inspections for vehicles.

Correspond with 811 Call Locate New Mexico and local telephone company to identify existence of gas lines, electric lines, telephone lines and other utility lines before excavating for new meter installations, new lines or for repairs of water or sewer lines.  

Install safety signage and barriers in accordance with OSHA and Department of Transportation regulations when excavating or operating heavy equipment near or along roads and highway thoroughfares.

Perform Monthly Meter Reading by driving vehicles along routes to record readings into the MRX90.  Submit readings in a timely manner to the Water/Sewer Clerk.

Monitor water wells by taking daily readings to ensure contents of proper amounts of chlorination, etc.

Assist Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator with daily functions and responsibilities as assigned.

Perform other assigned duties such as winter snow removal, weed and trash abatement on and around village complex offices and village property.

All duties and responsibilities must comply with village policies and procedures, employee personnel manual, ordinances, and resolutions.
