Job Summary/Scope

This is an entry-level flexible-shift position involving semi-skilled work in connection with water filtration and pumping to provide safe drinking water for residents of Homestead Landowners Association (HLA). The candidate will be available on-call 7 days a week to address any emergencies which may arise, and should reside within 25 miles of HLA.

Homestead Landowners Association is a non-smoking facility, located on Forest Road 66 in Datil, New Mexico. This is a contracted position which reports to Miki Ross, HLA Water Operations Manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain well pumps, distribution lines, storage tanks, and other infrastructure.

  • Assist in installation, repair, testing, and disinfection of water pipes, as well as meter reading, and  installation of water meters for new property owners.

  • Safely drive and operate the HLA Service truck.

  • Handle, store and utilize treatment chemicals and apply basic math skills to determine chemical treatment amounts and track water usage.

  • Troubleshoot and correct minor electrical and mechanical equipment problems, address water-related complaints, and respond to water system emergencies. 

  • Attend monthly HLA Board meetings (every second Sunday at 2pm) to present the water system report, and communicate effectively with property owners, regulatory personnel, and others.

  • Other duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Possession of or ability to obtain within one year of hire, at minimum, a Small Water Operator’s license for water treatment and/or distribution as may be appropriate.

  • Must be physically able to lift 50lbs, manually dig and fill in a trench, and go down steps into well houses with low doors and ceilings.

  • This work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, and uses tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

  • Employees may be exposed to irritating chemicals and other contaminants. The work may be performed outdoors, and occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and/or gloves, which are provided by HLA.
