Utilities Engineer

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Responsible for working collaboratively with a group of engineers and technical staff, reviews civil and environmental engineering projects, specifically water, wastewater and solid waste utilities project. Performs tasks required for daily operation of engineering department. Works collaboratively with Water and Sanitation Department engineers and technicians to ensure timely collaboratively completion of projects and tasks. Provides review of all civil and environmental engineering accomplished by the WSD either through in-house design or contract. Tracks projects from the preliminary design or completion of construction and project closeout. Works with the Water, Wastewater and Solid Waste divisions to answer technical questions concerning needed upgrades, system capacities, construction problems and daily operations that are related to utilities, civil and environmental engineering. Prepares reports required by the City of Gallup, State of New Mexico or Federal agencies. May be called upon to address these agencies or the general public regarding the activities of the WSD. Assist in the maintenance of engineering and infrastructure records, prepared and drafts as built plans for electrical, water, sewer and street light systems. Reviews application for utility permits, franchise utility permits, issues routine permits. Maintain systems map files and its data base index.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATION:
- One (1) year of experience in project management.
- Graduate of a four (4) year ABET accredited university with at least a bachelor’s of science degree in civil, environmental or mechanical engineering.
- Valid driver’s license (state of residence) that meets City’s insurability requirements.
- Designation as Engineering Intern (EI) in the State of New Mexico or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
