Water Administrator
The Jicarilla Apache Nation, located in northern New Mexico seeks applications from qualified individuals to serve as the Nation’s Water Administrator. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering the Jicarilla Office of Water Administration, ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Nation’s Water Code, and the conditions of all permits, orders, regulations, and other actions taken and policies and guidelines established by the Water Commission.
By law, the Nation’s Water Administrator shall be a technically qualified, registered, professional engineer or hydrologist possessing at least a master’s degree in a water-related discipline; or a bachelor’s degree and not less than three years’ experience in water resource management, water rights administration, or water development or engineering. Knowledge regarding the Colorado River Basin and experience with intergovernmental relationships is highly preferred.
The position requires regular presence at the Nation’s Office of Water Administration in Dulce, New Mexico, Jicarilla Apache Nation, and extensive travel throughout the Colorado River Basin. Tribal and Indian preference applies. The Water Commission will interview selected candidates and make recommendations to the President of the Nation regarding its findings. The Water Administrator will ultimately be appointed by the President and confirmed by the Council. The salary of the Water Administrator will be set by the Council and will be commensurate with education and experience.
